Am I covered for hospitalisation whilst waiting for my social security application to finalise

I applied for my social security number last October but I still haven't received anything. Just before Christmas, I ended up in hospital for medical emergency which required various tests and an overnight stay. My question is, when my social security number eventually gets issued, will I be able to make a claim against the treatment received on the basis my application was submitted (more than 2 months) before the treatment started?

Thank you for your update. In response to my situation, my wife and I move to France permanently last July. We are self employed, working through a SAS which is registered in France. We are both registered for and paying tax in France.

I have tried calling the English speaking line at CPAM but each time I keep getting a recorded message advising the number is unavailable due to "exceptional circumstances" so have been unable to get any help.

I can see on the amelie.fr website our online application which we submitted end of September is still showing the status "Traitement en cours". The status has not changed since our initial submission and there is no tracking number given on the website. We have submitted all documents requested so unclear what is causing the delay.

Is there anything else we can do to help get this progressed, as it is preventing us from taking out suplementary health insurance i.e. we need a social security number to do so?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hello JDM,

Regarding your situation, I advise to contact your local "Centre de formalités des entreprises" of URSSAF (union de recouvrement des cotisations de sécurité sociale et d'allocations familiales) to check if your application has been well transferred to CPAM.

Otherwise, you can submit a new application directly to CPAM. You will find how to apply in this topic.
