why does ameli not recognise my social security number?

I am a part-time foreign student and work part-time as well. For my part-time job, I had to sign up to be an auto-entrepeneur. I have been given a social security number by URSSAF, however, when I tried to sign up to ameli it did not accept my social security number.

I am from the UK, but I have settled status in France, as I moved here pre-Brexit.

Also, I would prefer to sign up to the foreign student health care option, as I spend more time being a student than doing my part-time job, but I am concerned that the system will not know that I already have a social security number, and it will give me a second one.

I am unsure what to do!

Hello sophie,

First, you have to know that when you receive a definitive social security number, you keep it throughout your life, it never changes. Your activity here in France will determine yourmembership under the French health system, and you may no longer ask your registration from the student website.

In order to ensure that the number issued by Urssaf (union de recouvrement des cotisations de sécurité sociale et d'allocations familiales) is valid, I invite you to check with your caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM).  You might find help and advice to create your account online.

Thank you for your advice. However, the issue is that I cannot go to my local CPAM without an appointment, and I cannot make an appointment because the system does not accept my social security number.

I have spoken to student services at my university, who also said it is very strange, as the third part of a social security number is a regional code in France, or, if born outside of France, it is '99'. However, my third section is '00'.
