Does a Birth Certificate Need Legalisation for CPAM Registration?

Hi, I’m a Thai international student who will register with CPAM de Meurthe-et-Moselle in Nancy.

My birth certificate and surname change certificate are in Thai. I plan to have them translated into French by a sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) in France.

Could you please confirm whether the French translations completed by a sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) also need to be authenticated or legalised, and if so, which authority is responsible for this authentication? For example, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French Embassy in Thailand, the Thai Embassy in France, or another authority?

Hello Sonia,

Only documents issued by a foreign authority need to be apostilled upon where you are from.

A translation done in France by an official translator does not have to be apostilled.

If necessary, you can find the list of the translators on this page of the Cour de Cassation website : "Trouver un expert agréé ou un traducteur agréé".
