Applying for EU Health Card in France as an Italian/Australian Citizen

Hi,

I am a Italian and Australian citizen, and have just moved to France last year. I have never applied for a European Health Card as prior to my move to France I was living in Australia.

Could I please get some assistance in how to get healthcare card? I have my Italian passport however I do live in France and would like to know how to be covered. I currently don't work however I do have proof of residency.

Hello danimik,

If you are an Italian citizen, I advise you read this topic entitled: "How to be covered if I am not working and I am a European citizen ?".

If you are a non-European citizen, you must follow the steps indicated in this topic: "How to be covered if I am not working and I am a non-European citizen ?".

I would like to draw your attention on the fact that the birth certificate and the passport you will have to provide for your application have to be issued by the same country.

If you need some help regarding this request, you can contact the CPAM’s English speaking line, by dialling 09 74 75 36 46.

The line is open from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hi danimik, since you living in France for more than three months, you should be able to apply for PUMA. As an unemployed EU citizen there is a portal to use that you can find by searching "Registration of nonworking European nationals for Health Insurance".

I forgot to clarify: the EHIC is the card you get, once you are insured in France, to travel abroad in EU. Inside France you would use your Carte Vitale.
