I am a graduate EU citizen doing a convention de stage, how do I apply for Assurance Maladie?

Hello.
I have moved earlier this month to France to do an internship. I am from Portugal and have graduated in june 2025, but my university was able to provide me with an internship agreement so I am on a convention de stage.
I have the European Health Card but my HR says I need social security number because I will be earning.
I am not a student anymore, but still have "student status" and I am earning but because it is an internship I am not an employee of the company, how do I apply for social security? Should I follow the steps of students, or professionals? Given that I am from EU and have health insurance from there, does that change anything?

Bonjour MiaFPO,

Depending on the amount of compensation you receive during your internship, you will either remain registered with your Portuguese health insurance scheme or you may need to apply to register with the French health insurance system.

I suggest you read this article on the centre des liaisons européennes et internationales de sécurité sociale (Cleiss) website, which provides an overview of internships in France for national of European Economic Area (EEA).

If your compensation allows, you will have to follow the instructions mentioned in this topic named how to be covered if I am working with a French contract ?.

Have a nice day
