Getting a social security number

Hello, I am have dual citizenship (Austrian/US) but I never lived in Austria to get on their healthplan. Now I live in France with my wife and her parents. I stay at home and take care of her parents because they are older and infirm as well as our dogs and the house while she works. Her job has her traveling 4 days a week out of town and I am the only one left to take care of anything at home. I live in the Ardennes and don't speak French well enough to get a job locally. I am taking lessons but it is taking longer than I would like. I am 52 years old. How can I get a social security number as I need one to be covered by my wife's mutualle insurance?

Hello Daveh0411,

If you came to France under american citizenship, I invite you to read this topic called "How to be covered if I am not working and I am a non-European citizen ?" to know how to apply.

If you came under European citizenship, you should apply as explained in this topic called "How to be covered if I am not working and I am a European citizen ?".

Have a nice day.
