CPAM asked again for my birth certificate after getting my temporary social security number

Hello,

I am writing here because I am not sure where else to contact you.
I have tried calling your hotline several times, but no one has answered. Sometimes a French operator picks up, but when I ask to be transferred to someone who speaks English, the line disconnects or no one answers afterward.

I have already submitted all the required documents listed on your website and received my temporary social security number (NIA) in October.
However, I recently received a letter from l’Assurance Maladie dated 28 October 2025, which arrived on 8 November 2025.

The letter states that you are requesting the original copy of my birth certificate and its French translation. I would like to understand why this request is being made now, as my previous documents were already accepted when my file was processed.

At the moment, I only have one original copy of my birth certificate, along with the official French translation done by Alliance Française in the Philippines and authenticated by the French Embassy.
Would it be possible for me to send a certified true copy of my birth certificate (stamped by the city hall) together with a photocopy of the authenticated translation, instead of mailing my only originals?

I am really hoping you can answer my question and guide me on what to do next.

Isabel

Hello Isabel,

As you have a temporary social security number (NIA), your rights to the French Health Care System are opened but you do not have the "carte Vitale" or the access to your ameli accountyet.

In order to certify your social security number, your assurance maladie office (CPAM) can ask you to provide additionnal document.

In your situation, it seems that they want an extract of your birth certificate with "filiation", and its translation made by a sworn translator (originals or certified copies). To check the list of official translators registered with the Court of Appeal, please click on the following link: https://www.courdecassation.fr

I advise you to call again the english hotline in order to have more specific information. More information on this topic: "How can I contact the CPAM’s English or French Advice Lines".

Have a nice day.
