Non-EU spouse of EU citizen

My spouse and I are both American but my spouse also has EU (Latvian) citizenship and passport. We just moved to France, and have both applied for residency. As her spouse, I did not need or receive a Visa before arrival. What are the steps to be covered as the non-EU spouse of an EU citizen and when will I be eligible?

In order to apply for a social security number for both of you, I advise you to read this topic called : "National security number". You have both options, for your wife and for you. You will find further information reading this FAQ "How to be covered ?"

Thank you for your reply. The information contained in your links refer to a European Union citizen and do not reference a non-EU spouse of an EU citizen. My application for CPAM is asking for my visa or residence permit. I have neither, as a visa was not required for entry and my residence permit is still in process. What are my options?

As explained on the FAQ mentionned previously, you will find the details regarding your situation. I invite you to take a note reading this topic "How to be covered if I am not working and I am a non-european citizen ?"

Then, to prove that you are on a regular situation on our country, you will find a list of documents that you can provide on legifrance, article 1.

If you are on an irregular situation, you can apply for aide médicale de l'État (AME).
