Any Age Limit for PUMa Converage for ExpAt Retirees Living In France?

Are there age limits for U.S. Retirees living in France for PUMa Health Insurance? It seems we've read that you had to apply before age 65 in order to have coverage at ages older than 65. Please help me understand what health insurance is available for U.S. retirees who are planning to live in France on Long-Term Stay Visas as we will be retired once we reach 65 years of age.

Thank You.

Good morning Chaz,

Thanks to the universal health protection scheme (protection universelle maladie - PUMa), anyone who works or lives in France on a stable and regular basis for more than three months is entitled to have their health costs covered.

There is no age requirement.

You will find the steps in order to obtain your social security number in this topic: New to France - healthcare?

Have a nice day

Thank you for the prompt and helpful reply. Since we would be retired and our financial support would come from Pension & Savings, how would our insurance premiums be determined? Is it based on the pension amount and savings withdrawals are reported on our US Income Tax or is there a table of set annual premiums based on income levels. Also are there any exclusions such as pre-existing conditions or current medical needs?
Thanks again.

Good morning Chaz,

The "caisse primaire d'assurance maladie" (CPAM) is not in charge of the calculation and payment of your health cover.

You can find all the information about this subject onto the website of "union de recouvrement des cotisations de sécurité sociale et d'allocations familiales" (Urssaf) onto the section "Bénéficiaire de la PUMa > Modalités de calcul de la cotisation".

Regarding your medical condition, there is no such thing as any exclusion onto the French Health System.

Have a nice day.
