How long does it take to receive my social security number.

Hello,
I have been employed by a French company since the beginning of February and paying French tax. Nobody told me I needed this card and number as I was paying Tax I assumed to company I work for would have taken care of this. However they did not. I am trying to get my carte vitale and social security number. Last month I was placed on 2 weeks sick leave so now I need to claim my sick benefit. The application documents have been in for over 2 weeks now. Can someone tell me how long does it take to get an answer.
