Social Security Number: Spouse Of EU Citizen Self-Employed

Hello, I am the American spouse of an Italian citizen and we moved here to France from the USA in September 2025. My husband is registered as an auto-entrepreneur, and I currently have a part time job at a cafe in Paris. My husband is in the process of sending his Italian birth certificate and bank documents to the Caisse d'assurance Maladie to complete his registration with the French health care system. Should I register separately from him as an employee of this cafe, or wait until my husband"s registration is complete and register in the French health care system as his spouse? Which is more straight forward? What would the steps be for each process?

It is necessary for you to be registered separately from your husband.

Concerning his application, it seems to be in process. He just has to wait to receive his social security number.

You have to print and fill this joining the documents according to your situation (identity document, Proof of address, a payslip or employment contract…)

You can send it by letter (real paper) or on the website dépôt doc if the département where you are living is on depotdoc
