Problem creating an Ameli account with my CAF social security number

Hello,

I am an international student in France. I recently registered with CAF and received my numéro de sécurité sociale (social security number) from them. According to the letter I received, this is my official social security number — it has 15 digits and starts with 1.

However, when I try to create an account on Ameli using this number, I get an error saying that the information is invalid or incorrect, even though I am sure I entered everything correctly.

Do I need to apply for a new or different social security number through Ameli, or should I wait until my number is activated in the system?

Thank you very much for your help and guidance.

Hello VietAnh,

I confirm that the social security numbers issued by CAF are official numbers.

However, you cannot access the ameli account if you do not have health insurance coverage.

First, you will need to send the following documents to your CPAM by  post:
- A copy of the passport or identity card;
- The S1106 form « Application for membership in the French health care system » available on ameli.fr;
- The certified and complete copy of your birth certificate, with the mention of your parents’ names;
- A copy of your marriage certificate, if applicable;
- For non-Europeans citizen, the official translation of your birth and marriage certificates into French, made by an official translator registered with a French court of justice, or by your consulate or embassy;
- A proof of residency (utility bills, rental contract, etc.);
- Your French bank account details (copy of your official RIB - relevé d'identité bancaire/IBAN);
- For non-European citizens, a copy of your visa or residence permit;
- A school certificate.

Contact details are available on ameli.fr, in this section "Adresses et Contacts".

I wish you a nice day.

Thank you very much for your explanation. I have already submitted all the required documents (passport, birth certificate, visa, RIB, and school certificate) online through the étudiant-étranger.ameli.fr platform.

Could you please confirm whether I still need to send the same documents again by post to my local CPAM office, or if the online submission is sufficient?

Thank you very much for your help.

VietAnh,

As you already have a French social security number, you cannot apply online.

You will need to send your documents to your CPAM by post.

Have a nice day.

However, I had already submitted all the documents online yesterday on étudiant-étranger.ameli.fr before knowing this information, and I noticed that there is no option to cancel the submission.

Could you please confirm whether this will cause any problem for my application, or if I can simply proceed to send the same documents by post to my local CPAM now?

Thank you very much for your help.

VietAnh,

Your online application will simply be rejected, informing you that you will need to apply by mail.

This will not affect the process.

Have a good day.
