How to apply for a social security number when still living abroad?

Hi! I hope all is well! Currently, I live in Germany (not my home country) where I have my social security. I am Swiss and Turkish but only lived and had social security in Turkey. Except for the current German one, I do not have any other EU social security number. I just took a job offer in France. The company asked me to apply for my provisional social security number but I will not be in France for still some time. They also asked me to have my onboarding for a month in a non-EU country starting from my first day and on. This means that I may not be able to physically be in France to apply for this number even after my employment starts.

Is there a way for me to start the process of registration for the social security number from abroad? Can someone advise me on how to proceed here, please?

Thank you!

Pink

Hello Pink,

You will be able to apply to French health insurance once you will be living in France.

You can start working even if you have not received your social security number while starting your activity. The processing time for your rights to be opened varies from a caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) to another. You can reach a counselor if you wish to know the delay you have to wait.

I invite you to read the page called "How to be covered?" from our forum to know how to apply depending on your situation.

Have a nice day.
