How to order my European Health Insurance Card (“carte européenne d’assurance maladie” or CEAM)

You can order your “carte européenne d’assurance maladie” (CEAM, also called EHIC) from your ameli account, under the section > Mes démarches > CEAM.

This card is free, normative and individual, and it is valid for 2 years. It is only possible to use it in European countries.


It takes about fifteen days for your physical card to be delivered by post. You can also download a temporary document certifying that your CEAM is on the way when you order the card on your ameli account. However, you can only download this document once, when you order the card. There is a digital version available on the smartphone app if you have to leave France before you receive the physical card, or in case you lose it.

If you are covered with an S1 form, the country issuing this S1 is the only one that can provide you with your CEAM.

Hello, how do I get an "ameli" accout for my children?
My children are French citizens. I am not a French citizen.
We are currently in Europe from New Zealand and I would like to get a European Health Insurance Card (CEAM) for my French citizen minors.
Please advise.

Hello Ncra016,

The ameli account can only be accessed by insured persons who are affiliated with thei own rights (on the basis ot their activity for example) and whose rights have benne opened with the French national health insurance scheme (The Assurance Maladie).

Minors chiildren who are attached to their parent's files cannot create an ameli account.

I advise you to contact your health insurance scheme (in Europe) to order the European Health Insurance Card for your children.
