Long hospitalization (pregnancy related) before receiving Carte de Sejour and CPAM registration

Hello,
I arrived in France with a CDI some months ago with a Passeport Talent visa. I started the required procedures to obtain the Carte de Sejour and CPAM registration for my wife and myself. We are both non-European and don't speak french.
My wife is pregnant and has been hospitalised for over ten days. We are still waiting for our Carte de Sejour and our CPAM registration.
1. What is our status at the moment concerning health insurance? What happens to foreigners immigrating to France in this period while the Sejour documentation and CPAM registration are ongoing?
2. Can we expect the CPAM to pay the expenses of hospitalizations retroactively?

Please let us know what we can expect and how we can proceed. We are desperate for information. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Alexis

Hello Alexis,

First, you have to know that for a person without any job, the coverage is done on the date of complete filing of the file (regularity and stability of residence in France  for more than 3 months). If this is the case for your wife , she can expect to be refunded for her expenses.

If you cannot pay the fees in advance, I suggest you to contact the social worker at the hospital to explain the situation.

Regarding your own coverage, if you are in a regular situation, it is the date of your first day at work that will be selected. In this case the rigths are therfore retroactive.

Then, because of safety and confidentiality issues, we can’t reach any of your information or file from this forum.

The processing times vary depending on the type of files and the number of files being processed by your caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM).

If you need help regarding this request, you can contact the CPAM’s English or French Advice Lines.

More information in the following topic: How to call the French Health Insurance Advice Lines?

Have a nice day.

Dear Betty, Thank you very much for your answer. It is greatly appreciated. Okay, I will get in contact with the Social Workers at the Hospital, and also with the CPAM to try to clarify the situation.
Best regards
