Covid Test without Social Security

I want to take a Covid test as I will travelling. I have submitted all the documents required for obtaining social security but yet has not received even the temporary certificate. Will my charges for the covid test reimbursed?

Hello Rohit,

There are five types of tests used in the Covid-19 epidemic:

  • Virological tests, swab-based nasopharyngeal tests (RT-PCR), which detect whether a person is a carrier of the virus,
  • Rapid antigenic tests (RATs) which, like PCR tests, can detect whether a person is a carrier of the virus. They consist of taking a nasopharyngeal swab and mixing the swab with a reagent,
  • Self-tests, nasal swabs, which are read by the patient under the supervision of the chemist,
  • Serological tests which aim to find out whether or not a person has been in contact with the virus and has developed immunity to it,
  • Saliva tests,

Since 15/10/2021, only these first three types of tests are covered at 100% by the Health Insurance.

The situations in which RT-PCR, TAG and self-tests are covered at 100% (only since 11/11/2021 for self-tests) are the following
-A minor,
-Vaccinated person with proof of a complete vaccination course (excluding booster),
-Person with a contraindication to vaccination,
-Person with a certificate of recovery,
-Person who is symptomatic
-Person who needs to be tested before receiving care in a health facility,
-Person identified as a contact case by the Assurance Maladie, the regional health agency (ARS) or the TousAntiCovid application,
-Person who needs to perform an RT-PCR test to confirm a positive TAG,
-Person who has to perform an exit quarantine test for passengers returning from countries on the orange or red list,
-Persons travelling in mainland France and the overseas collectivities for tests to be carried out on their arrival or at the end of a period of isolation or quarantine,
-Exceptionally, and in the interest of health protection, pregnant women and restricted family members with whom they live or are in frequent contact.
