Hello Aleg,

Virological tests (RT-PCR) carried out by insured persons during a stay in a country of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or in Switzerland are covered by the Health Insurance.

Whether the tests are of an administrative nature (entry into the country of stay) or of a medical nature (symptomatic insured person needing to undergo a control test), these tests shall be reimbursed at 100% on the basis of a fixed price of €50 (since 15/12/2020) which includes the cost of sampling and analysis.

If the test is immediately necessary, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can be presented. The procedures for using the EHIC and the procedure to follow in the event of payment of the costs on the spot are presented in this article published on the ameli.fr website: "Holidays abroad: your reimbursement" (French page).

For stays outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland, only tests of a medical, urgent and unexpected nature may be covered by the Assurance Maladie up to 27% of the cost incurred.

On your return to France, you must send the form S3125 entitled "Care received abroad" to your primary health insurance fund (CPAM), accompanied by paid invoices and a medical prescription or a medical certificate to justify the unexpected nature of the test.

Please note: a medical prescription is only required outside the European Union in order to be reimbursed.

You will find all this information on ameli.fr in the article: "Covid-19: how are screening tests performed abroad covered?" (French page).

Have a nice day.
