I cannot contact the English helpline and have not received my social security number yet.

I am an employee in France and have paid my social security contributions. I applied for my Social Security Number in October and was requested to submit my Bank details to complete the application. I did this in early December. However, I have been unable to follow up with the application as I have not been able to access the English helpline. So I have not even received my temporary number. I have tried calling the number from a French number, an Irish number and a landline and it tells me to call back followed by something in French which I cannot understand.

I am due to move back home following the end of my contract in March and I am eager to get refunded for my medical expenses before this.

How can I contact regarding my social security number when the helpline does not work? Is it possible to receive a refund once I leave the country? For this I would likely also need to change my contact address.

I also have a EHIC, is it possible to be refunded through this instead if I cannot do it through my contributions in time?

I appreciate your help and advice on this.

You could also ask a friend who speaks french to call with you the French speaking line.

Hello Sophie,

You cannot reach the helpline by mobile telephone. I tried repeatedly with a French and International number. I was able to reach it eventually by finding a landline. This is a serious flaw with the helpline and from what I can see on the forum it is a common flaw. Not everyone has access to a landline.

I do not have any close friends here as I moved during a pandemic.

I can confirm people can reach the English speaking line by either using a mobile phone or a landline.

Regarding your situation, I advise you to go to a local office. However, we don't have the information whether agents speak English or not.

Dear Sophie,

I am afraid that again your information is incorrect. I was able to reach the helpline by a landline (which meant going into my office). I was unable to access it by any mobile phone number that I tried and I tried several. This is a problem that other people have flagged and is not being addressed. This is an ongoing issue.
