Registration timeline and healthcare coverage during processing period?

Hello,

I moved to France last month with my wife. I hold a Talent Passport visa, and my wife holds a Talent Passport – Family visa. I am currently working in France as a contractual researcher.

My wife is over 24 weeks pregnant, and we are in the process of registering for health insurance coverage in France. We have both submitted our applications online via the following link:
https://www.cpam75.depotdoc.fr/assure/depot

We already have upcoming medical appointments scheduled (pregnancy ultrasound scans and check-ups), and I would like to ask the following questions:

1. How long does it usually take to complete registration and obtain affiliation to the French healthcare system?

2. While our applications are still being processed, what should we do regarding medical expenses?

3. Is it possible to claim reimbursement for healthcare expenses incurred during this period once we are registered?

If needed, I can provide our application tracking numbers.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Kind regards

vk93

Hello vk93,

First, the processing times vary depending on the number of files awaiting processing by your caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM). However they are rarely less than 10 weeks.

While waiting for her membership to become effective, your wife must pay for her healthcare.

She can request reimbursement once she has been given a social security number.

She will then need to fill in the care forms she was given when she received healthcares (brown papers) with her social security number, name and address and send them by post to the caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) of Paris.

To know more, I advise you read this topic entitled: "How to be covered if I am a « Passeport talent » or a « Passeport talent famille » holder ?"

If you need help regarding your request, you can contact the CPAM’s English or French Advice Lines.

Have a nice day.
