Hello abducens,

To be accepted, your identity document has to be one of those mentioned on this topic titled "Pièce d'identité étranger".

If you submit the right document and it is still not accepted, I advise you to use the paper form you received or will receive by post and send it back to the specifid address.

If you do not have this form, you can contact your CPAM to get a new one.

Thank you for this response. I managed to apply but got rejected. I do not understand why. Is there a format needed for my passport or other documents?

Votre pièce d'identité n'est pas recevable.
Pour obtenir votre carte Vitale,
veuillez télécharger une nouvelle pièce d'identité dans la rubrique « Mes démarches / commander ma carte Vitale ».

First of all, it is important to notice that all your steps online on your "compte ameli" must be done on the french version of the website.

If the message: "service momentanément indisponible" appears, I suggest you clear your browser’s cache and/or try again using a different browser and/or device (smartphone, tablet, computer). You can also download the application "compte ameli" on your mobile phone (on App Store, or Google Play).

To complete your procedures online, you can seek help from a « France Services » office. You can find their addresses and contact details below:

(We advise you to be accompanied by a French-speaking person).
