This step can be done through your ameli account under the section "Démarches" > Inscrire votre enfant sur la carte Vitale de l’autre parent. This means easier access to care since it allows either parent to use their own carte Vitale upon the child’s consultation. The reimbursement will then be sent to that parent.

If your child is not yet registered on your file, or if your child was born outside of France, you need to fill the S3705 form available on ameli.fr and send it to your CPAM, along with a copy of your child’s passport and birth certificate issued less than a year ago.

Remember to update your carte Vitale in a pharmacy once this process is completed, and your child appears on your ameli account as a beneficiary.

What does it mean to be the main or the secondary parent ?

Both parents can show their carte Vitale for the reimbursements of their child’s health expenses. However, only the main parent receives letters for his/her child and is able to order his/her carte Vitale, or European health insurance card (CEAM, also called EHIC).

Form S3705 also allows you to change the main parent for the child (left column) and the secondary parent (right column).
