The student website is only useful for sending your supporting documents when you arrive in France in order to obtain a social security number.

Once you have been assigned your social security number, the file you created on this website will be closed and your information will no longer be updated there.

Do not worry, the fact that you are receiving letters from your caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) at your new postal address is proof that it has been properly registered.

First of all, you cannot create your online account by yourself if you do not have yet a carte Vitale and/or if your social security number is not certified.

To make sure that your social security number is permanent and certified, and obtain a temporary password to access your ameli account, you should first contact a CPAM adviser.

If you only speak English, we suggest you contact the English speaking line on 09 74 75 36 46 during low-traffic hours, between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Once you have logged into your ameli account, you will be able to order your "carte Vitale" by following the instructions provided in this topic entitled: "How to order my carte Vitale ?".

You cannot use your personnal space on the web site https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr/login if you already have a numéro d'immatriculation d'attente (NIA).

You must send your documents by post. You can find your CPAM address on ameli.fr page "Adresses et contacts".

Some caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) offer the opportuny to upload documents on specific websites. To know if your CPAM allow this, you must contact a counselor.

Usually, as long as your caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) knows that you left France, your rights are automatically closed and you can not access your online account anymore.

If you need to submit documents, it will only be possible through post to the address of your local CPAM that you will find on ameli.fr, section "Adresses et contacts".

You need to open your rights to health insurance providing S1106 form - "Application for membership in the french health care system" with passeport and resident permit, birth certificate (if your social security number has not been certified yet), a school enrollment certificate and a relevé d'identité bancaire (RIB).

If it is not registered yet, please send the document with a copy of your passport.

First, if you already have a social security number even a non-functional one, you do not have to access the website for foreign students anymore. You only have to deal with your local caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM).

If your rights are closed, you should call your local CPAM in order to check about your situation. It is possible they are waiting for complementary information.
If you already send documents to them, the processing times vary depending on the type of files and the number of files being processed by your caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM).

Before you start, make sure you use the French version of the website (not the translated page).

Please note that it is not possible to create an ameli account within 7 to 10 days of receiving your definitive social security number.

Besides, if you have a temporary social security number, starting by 7 or 8, you cannot open an ameli account.

In order to create your account by yourself, you need:

- Your name;

- Your certified social security number (13 first digits);

- Your date of birth;

- Your post code;

- The last 7 digits of your IBAN number (french bank account only);

- The last 11 digits of your carte Vitale’s serial number (on the right handside of the picture);

- Your email address (your ameli account is personal and individual. Please do not use an e-mail address already linked to another ameli account. Note for students: it is possible to choose a different email address for the ameli account than the one you gave when you registered on the Etudiant étranger website).
