Where to apply for Social Security Number as a CIFRE Student

Hello,

I’m a PhD student with a Passeport Talent – Chercheur visa. I arrived in France on January 26th and I’ve never had a French social security number before.

I sent my documents for health insurance registration to CPAM de l’Essonne (91040 Évry Cedex), but I forgot to include the convention d’accueil.

I haven’t received a reply yet, and I’m now wondering if I should resend the complete application including that document — and if so, should I send it to CPAM de Paris instead?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Johnso,

First of all, depending on whether or not you are a salaried employee, your application for affiliation should be sent to your local caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) or to the CPAM of Paris.

Foreign research scientists (doctoral and post-doctoral students) holding a talent passport who are not employees (either in France or in their home country) must be affiliated to their local CPAM.
If, on the other hand, you are employed as well as being a research scientist, your application for affiliation must be sent to Paris.

I suggest you read this topic named : "How to be covered if I am a « Passeport talent » or a « Passeport talent famille » holder ?"

Processing delays vary according to the number of files being processed. They therefore vary from one CPAM to another.

To find out more about how your claim is being processed, I advise you to contact your CPAM on 36 46. If you do not speak french, you can contact the English speaking line, dialling the following number : 09 74 75 36 46.

I wish you a good day.
