Refunds with a temporary Social Security number?

I want to confirm that I can get reimbursed for medical care even though I only have my "temporary" social security number. Also, assuming this is possible, where can I get the specific requirements and process to do this? For instance, do need to have a primary care doctor assigned first. Is here a form I need to use to submit these reimbursement requests? Must the requests be submitted by mail?

I have seen similar questions on the forum, but they are several years old, and I want to make sure I have the current/accurate information.

Hello ninFR,

If your rights to health insurance are opened but your social security number has not been certified yet to offer you to access ameli account and carte Vitale, you will be given "Feuille de soins" by practitioners to get refunds for health care by your caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM).

You need to send those feuilles de soins by post. You will find your CPAM address page "Adresses et contacts" on ameli.fr.

You must get a "Médecin traitant" connected to your file to receive proper refunds. If you cannot provide your carte Vitale to your doctor, he will give you a form  called "formulaire S3704 Déclaration de choix du médecin traitant" that you fill and your doctor signs. Then you send it to your CPAM.

Have a nice day.

Doctor must give you a brown/orange form named « feuille de soins »

You have to fill the first part with your biethday/temporary number/address (doctor must have filled your name at least) and sign it on the bottom.
Then you only have to send it to your cpam by letter or bring it to them.

If it’s a « feuille de soins » for prescription care (medication, physiotherapy, nursing, etc.) you must put the prescription with it (a copy if it’s renewable)
